This is a gap year website, so why would you consider your options in South Africa regarding studying? Two reasons come to mind :
- whatever the duration of your gap (it's not always necessary to take a full year out!) you will probably want to get a further qualification afterwards; and
- you might want to do short courses during your gap year, which may or may not be part of your eventual field of study.
It therefore makes sense to look at your options before you begin your gap year, especially if one of your reasons for taking a gap is to take the time to work out what sort of life you really want to live and to plan what you therefore need to study in order to get the qualifications you want.
You can search to see the formal courses and qualifications on offer in South Africa in one of two ways:
- either click here to search by name of the university or college in which you are interested, or
- click on one of the following links for study options in the various industries:
Contact us if we haven't covered your area of interest so that we can refer you to the relevant places and people.
Short courses
There are many qualifications available besides degrees and diplomas which will add to your resume and enable you to contribute more wherever you end up. In the globalised, flat world in which we already live formal qualifications, although still necessary, are less important than the attitudes and experiences of potential employees. The biggest assets available to all of us are curiosity and passion, both drivers of the motivation to pursue what matters to you and to do what is necessary to achieve your ideal life. An alternative to doing a course is to obtain a book or manual that will allow you to self study a topic. Thereafter you could do a course to get practical experience and a certificate of achievement if necessary.
